A wonderful way to learn to connect to our True Selves– or Core Being– is by discovering ways to shift perspectives and to open up to new possibilities. When old limitations are broken through, we find ourselves more receptive to the potential of what we– individually, and collectively as humans– can be and are capable of. It is empowering, exciting, and shows us how much more there is to life than what we may have previously thought.
Superhuman; The Invisible Made Visible is new film that can help us do just that.
I highly recommend watching it to expand your thinking, stretch your perception, and discover more of your true potential. You are Superhuman, whether you realize it yet or not 🙂

“Once you have come far enough to see yourself with all your faults, devoid of defensiveness and feelings of disharmony, as an uninvolved observer would, you can build the positive—and only then. For you must build on a foundation of truth. You cannot build on lies or untruth, and those who do not know themselves and their motives, either by not wanting to or through self-deception, build on untruth. When you accept calmly who you are just now, you possess true humility which will set in motion the forces of transformation from deep within. Then you are able to see the reverse, that is the original goodness at the root of your faults.” -from The Pathwork

If you struggle with any form of dissatisfaction in your life– from deep depression to more mild effects such as constantly looking for other potential partners (if you are in a relationship)– the Prison/Slave mentality is worth reflecting on.
So many people struggle under a seemingly unbearable burden, but often can’t quite put a name to the burden. Some might name society, or other people as the causes, but many just think something is wrong with them. Or worse, that they ‘are wrong’.
I’ll tell you again (as I often say), there is nothing wrong with you.
When you wake up to who you really are, EVERYTHING will change. I mean that. And you will live in perpetual freedom, even joy, with no burden and no fears.
I know it sounds impossible, but it is true.
But in order to do this we each must consider the Prison/Slave mentality. It is so built into daily life that most accept it as just ‘reality’.
Take something simple, like the work-week, the days Monday through Sunday. How many people habitually feel low on Monday (back to work), burdened on Wednesday (hump day), and lifting spirits on Friday (to have ‘free’ time, all too often to lose consciousness in drugs and alcohol).
Who made up those days and what they ‘mean’?
‘The gauge of success is your own satisfaction. The tragedy is gauging your success on someone else’s satisfaction.‘ – Guru Jagat
And what about time? Time is not set. It slows down when bored or waiting or in pain, it speeds up with under perceived pressure. It is totally relative to your experience. In deep meditation, or moments of expanded consciousness, there is no time.
Another example is age. There are all the rules about what people should be like, capable of, or have done by a certain age. If you buy into these ‘rules’ for you, you create your own prison, and build a ‘Phantom Self’ around your True Center (and then wonder why life feels so deathly dull, fake, empty, hopeless).
How about what is ‘required’ to be a man (Success Object) or woman (Sex Object), a parent, a child, a Democrat or Republican (heavy traps), an American… I could go on and on.
Another very powerful trap that is used to enslave is the fear of DEATH. What people will do to avoid the unavoidable! The physical body and this ‘one life’ then become a horrible prison. Afraid to live, but afraid to die, trapped in the middle with nowhere to move and only the desire for someone to direct you to safety.
If you knew that the body was not YOU, would that change your life as you know it?
Virtually anything can become a prison if you believe in it.
The trick, is to discover the trick.
It is all a mind game.
Meditate on what your life might be like if you didn’t set your day based on the day of the week. And if you didn’t get caught up in the time trap. If you considered your authentic inner desires, versus the plan your parents, spouse, political party, church, government or anyone else set out for you.
Everything is an idea. And your experience is based on how to you relate to ideas– which you take on or reject.
I know it can seem so scary, the idea of being ostracized (kicked out) of your group. But is going along to get along worth the cost to you, to your soul? Only you can decide.
If we each were each living in freedom, we would find acceptance naturally became the way of the world. When I give acceptance to another, they discover how wonderful it is to receive, and then they want to give it to another. When I block another, then they want to block me too.
Start doing your own research into death and what it really is (or isn’t). But, I’ll warn you, you have to look outside of mainstream medicine and begin to explore with an open mind. Look into Near Death Experiences and true spiritual teachers (such as Nisargatta Maharaj and Ramana Maharshi, or even Eckhart Tolle) and develop an inner listening that can guide you to your own answers, not those handed to you (slave mentality).
We take for granted so many things we have been told, yet never questioned. You, we, each of us can know and discover Truth for ourselves. And often it is turns out to be the opposite of what we were told.
Start questioning everything. (You don’t have to drop your life, or outwardly question others. Just start within, see how it feels, be totally honest with yourself. Note: If it feels lousy then it cannot be Truth.)
Anything can become a prison, and only YOU can wake up from it by using awareness– awareness of the inner self and the realization that there even is a Phantom Self. And then there is the Eternal Self, which is the True Self and which is truly eternal. (Not the body, which is a temporary vehicle.)
But only you can claim this.

‘As you all know, at least theoretically and intellectually, love is the greatest power in the universe. Every spiritual teaching or philosophy, every religion, even modern psychology proclaims this truth. Love is the one and only power. With it you are mighty, you are strong, you are safe. Without it you are poor, you are separate; you are isolated and fearful. However, this knowledge cannot really help you until you discover where deep inside yourself you cannot love, you do not want to love, and you do not know why you resist loving. Without this particular knowledge, the great eternal truth about love remains a lofty ideal you cannot possibly apply to your person or your life right now.’- from The Pathwork Lectures
It is said that you must love yourself before you can love another. Have you ever wondered why this is so?
It is because you must have the inner EXPERIENCE of love before you can be in relationship with another and know what is truly love and what isn’t.
In this world we claim a lot of things are love that aren’t. Many of those things we mistake for love are really forms of manipulation and games we play with each other.
If ever in doubt, substitute the word ACCEPTANCE for LOVE. If you can fully accept another, you can love them. And that goes for yourself.
How do you learn to love yourself? Turn UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE inward to discover where you cannot and do not accept yourself. And that is where your work begins.
‘Love is a hunger to bless.’- Paul Rosenberg

One of the great contributions that The Three Principles brings to personal growth and psychotherapy, in my opinion, is the understanding they share around negative feelings.
It seems so contrary at first: We think if we are feeling bad, that something MUST be wrong, and often we try harder to fix it, or just give up and decide that it is a permanent state or problem, that it is ‘just reality’.
However, when you begin to watch yourself– just as an aware, impartial observer– you begin to notice that even if you have been depressed, you aren’t ALWAYS depressed. There are (small, fleeting) moments where you feel okay, even a little good.
You may also begin to notice that when you feel bad, you make bad decisions– like quitting a job in a fit of anger, staying in bed for days on end, or yelling at your kids after a stressful day of work.
The simple, but miraculous, understanding the 3Ps teach, is that when we wait for the bad feeling to shift– as it always does, like dark clouds moving across the sky– and we return to a good, or neutral, feeling, then we become available to solutions to problems, to fresh perspectives, to wise ideas.
Our natural state is this connectedness with full access to everything we ever needed. Yes it’s that simple.
Part of the human experience is to have dark clouds pass through, and the only problem is that consciousness makes it FEEL so real and lasting, like being thrown into a full special effects movie that is our life.
If we can learn to remember that the sun always comes back out, and the sun always rises in the morning– and we learn to wait for the sun to be out, so to speak, before reacting to others or making important decisions– our life just gets better and better.
It’s like when the red light comes on to tell you you are low on gas. You don’t give up in exasperation that you’ll never have gas again, and then go and break it off with your fiancé out of sheer desperation. You note the indicator on the dashboard and you put gas in your car. Period.
In the same way, when you are feeling dark or down it’s an indicator that you are not in your centered wholeness. So don’t make any important moves, because they won’t be the best for you.
The next time you are having a dark moment, just relax, trust that you are okay no matter what, and that it WILL pass. It always does. If you need to, take yourself out of the situation to cool off and get some perspective. (It can help to make deals with loved ones that you both will take a break when you start to struggle with each other, and won’t talk again until you both feel calm again.)
And then, in time, you can learn to observe those moments of inspiration you receive and to notice when they come along. I mean, those ‘aha!’ moments, those times when the perfect idea hits you like a lightning bolt, or when just the perfect, kind thing to say comes to you. (Hint: It’s always when you are clear and calm and connected to your center.) Then you can learn to cultivate these moments as a way of life.

And here’s a lovely bit of inspiration to help you shift to feeling just a little bit better. And when you do, notice how everyone and everything in your life ‘looks’ different to you.

‘A message to millenials: How to change the world properly.’ Video post by Professor Jordan B Peterson.
I highly recommend Jordan Peterson’s work — especially to young men, who seem to be most attracted to him.
My summary is that he is the father we all wish we could have had growing up; a sane, grounded, intelligent and caring role model who would clearly show us the way while encouraging personal responsibility, teaching us how to overcome adversity, and guiding us to grow in consciousness.
However, his message is not specifically geared to males. Really anyone can benefit from it: I have, and I’m a woman in my 40s 🙂

Where to? That’s the big question 🙂 I’ll be in temporary living situations for a few months, helping family through some major transitions.
That means I won’t have a physical office location for a while, but I’ll still be scheduling online therapy sessions. And, as all of you who have had to go to online therapy with me this year know, virtual therapy is VERY effective.
I’ll let you know when I have a new physical address. In the meantime, please reach out to me or schedule an appointment here.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, with special gratitude to my therapy clients, friends, and family!
Psychotherapy is not a luxury. Each and every one of us needs support at times, and we all have a lifetime of programming and experiences that can prevent us from living our most authentic, happy and rich lives.
I, personally, am grateful for the therapists and teachers who helped me through the darkness and back into the light. The inner journey is the most important we will ever undertake; not only for our personal growth into joy and peace, but also for the others we will influence, in a never-ending chain of humans helping humans.
Of course, not everyone can afford to pay for therapy. And although I aim to keep my rates affordable for all (including a ‘pay from the heart‘ option), I know that I can’t help everyone and that many will not reach out for assistance, at least not yet.
That is the reason I put a great deal of time and thought into providing online information, a recommended reading list, links to videos, and other free self-help resources that are available to all.
Please check out the Free Resources for Self-Help page. There are so many wonderful people, teachers and therapists who have written books and also share openly and freely online.
Also, sign up for the Five Star Human blog and updates. It’s all free and I’ll never bug you. And please feel free reach out to me directly anytime.
Each of us can aim to be a Five Star Human. A great way to start on that path is to practice simple gratitude. No matter our circumstances, we can find at least three things to be grateful for. Do it just once a week (consistently) and watch your life shift for the better.
Unfortunately, the default state for human beings (especially these days) tends to be towards the negative. A simple focus on gratitude shifts us back to the positive, and then we become able to attract more positive into our lives automatically.
With love, gratitude, and blessings for everyone.
Happy Thanksgiving 2020 🙂

The Invitation
By Oriah Mountain Dreamer
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
And if you dare to dream of meeting
Your heart's longing.
It doesn't interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
For love, for your dream,
For the adventure of being alive.
It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,
If you have been opened by life's betrayals,
Or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain,
Mine or your own,
Without moving
To hide it or fade it or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy,
Mine or your own,
If you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
Without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself,
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
I want to know if you can be faithless and therefore be trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty
Even when it is not pretty every day,
And if you can source your own life
From its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure,
Yours and mine,
And still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes!"
It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair,
Weary and bruised to the bone,
And do what needs to be done for the children.
It doesn't interest me who you are, how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
In the center of the fire with me
And not shrink back.
It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
From the inside
When all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone
With yourself,
And if you truly like the company you keep
In the empty moments.
(From the book, The Invitation.)

A “Love Style” is a kind of emotional injury that influences how you interact with others, especially romantically. Do you know yours?
Our childhood experiences shape what we expect from relationships, how we receive and express love, and they form the roots of how we respond to others in stressful interactions. The result of all these attachment experiences are actually very predictable because people tend to fall into one of five special categories: called “Love Styles”, or attachment styles.
